Hello. I'm Alex Bowen, a musician based in Derbyshire, England. My company Stepping Tones delivers fun music lessons and workshops to children and adults.
I currently teach piano lessons privately in Derby and I run occasional teacher training and Dalcroze Eurhythmics classes. Many of my piano pupils also attend group music theory lessons.
My document A Little Book of Piano Lessons provides more information about how I work. There's information below about my teaching background, qualifications and experience.
You might like to view my video for a taster of the tone and content of the lessons I teach:
I have been teaching piano, music theory, song-writing/ composition and musicianship since 2002, and have provided extra tuition for GCSE and A-level music students. I have taught pupils aged 4 – 75 from beginner to Grade 8 standard and am experienced in teaching those with specific learning requirements and conditions such as Dyslexia, Speech Dyspraxia and Visual Processing problems. I am particularly interested and specialised in teaching students who have Autistic Spectrum Conditions.
I provide teacher training in improvisation, keyboard harmony, musicianship, aural skills and music pedagogy.

I hold regular pupil concerts at The Voicebox Arts Centre in Derby: I invite my own students and the students of some of my teaching colleagues to perform. These events have been very successful with up to 20 performers and 70 audience members. The concerts are professionally filmed and these videos are hosted on Youtube.
